THE COSIGN TRAP

Pondering the Principles of Proverbs

Picture
If you have put up security for a friend’s debt
or agreed to guarantee the debt of a stranger--
if you have trapped yourself by your agreement
and are caught by what you said--
follow my advice and save yourself,
for you have placed yourself at your friend’s mercy.
Now swallow your pride;
go and beg to have your name erased.
Don’t put it off; do it now!
Don’t rest until you do.
Save yourself like a gazelle escaping from a hunter,
like a bird fleeing from a net. (Pro. 6:1-5)

In this day and age of high prices and our desire for “high-ticket” items, this section may seem a little antiquated.

Let's see, however, if there is not some modern-day wisdom that can be gleaned from this.

The writer is obviously speaking about co-signing for a loan, and he writes that if we have already done that, then do everything possible to get out of it.
Get out NOW!

God is NOT Dead (pt. 2)

And Neither is His Church

Picture
In a previous article entitled "God is Dead," I pointed out how the church is in decline in North America, and all but dead in Europe. People often get upset whenever numbers are presented about the decline of religion in our country.

I ended the article with an allusion to the title stating: "The church is not God."

I also said that the decline in religion, or church attendance is good news. Not only is it good news, it is something that God is happy about, because He is causing it.

God Is DEAD

April 8, 1966
The April 8, 1966, cover of Time magazine was the first cover in the magazine's history to feature only type, and no photo.[4] The cover – with the traditional, red border – was all black, with the words "Is God Dead?" in large, red text. The question was a reference to Friedrich Nietzsche's much-quoted postulate "God is dead" (German: "Gott ist tot"),[5] which he first proposed in his 1882 book The Gay Science.

What Does a Christian Believe?

I've been watching the intense controversy surrounding this current political season in the United States. People are taking sides in loud and sometimes obnoxious ways. Some people are even losing friends over this election.

There was an oh-so-true cartoon published on FaceBook today that solidified my desire to write this article. The caption read: "Let's argue about politics until we resort to name calling. Then we can move on to religion and finally kill each other."

A couple of weeks ago, the following comment was received by a friend of mine:

Hail To The Critic!

There is much criticism being hurled at the Church today. The critics are found among believer and non-believer alike.
Is this something that should concern us? Should we take any of the accusations or insults to heart? Should we look to see if there is any element of truth to what is said?
