I've been watching the intense controversy surrounding this current political season in the United States. People are taking sides in loud and sometimes obnoxious ways. Some people are even losing friends over this election.
There was an oh-so-true cartoon published on FaceBook today that solidified my desire to write this article. The caption read: "Let's argue about politics until we resort to name calling. Then we can move on to religion and finally kill each other."
A couple of weeks ago, the following comment was received by a friend of mine:
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood and sorry I could not travel both And be one traveller, long I stood and looked down one as far as I could to where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair, and having perhaps the better claim because it was grassy and wanted wear; though as for that, the passing there had worn them really about the same,
TWO ROADS DIVERGED IN A YELLOW WOOD
And both that morning equally lay in leaves no feet had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -- I took the one less travelled by, and that has made all the difference
The Christian faith is about FREEDOM. Freedom from rules. Freedom from regulations. Freedom from expectations. Freedom from the past. Freedom from bondage to bad habits. Freedom from the consequence of sin. Freedom to think. Freedom to be who we were meant to be.
Children in the neighborhood were out playing one afternoon, riding their bikes and chasing one another. They must have been playing some form of 'cops & robbers' as I heard one girl shout more than once, "Stop! In the name of the law!" I didn't know that form of language was still in use. I am so accustomed to movie cops shouting, "Police!" or, "Federal agents!" to announce their presence and their authority for telling someone to put down their weapons.
Dale has been sharing the practical application of the truths from the Bible for more than 40 years. He has often said, "People know how to shout the victory on Sunday, but can't figure out how to handle Monday." This blog is an attempt to help God's people on that journey.
