Pondering the Principles of Proverbs
I believe it also applies to those who are willing to work at ANY job just to be able to "pay the bills."
There is something to be said for the one who is willing to work.
while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied. (Pro. 13:4)
"I just wish somebody would give me a job."
How many times have you heard that? Innumerable in my life.
I know Christians who "stand on the promise" of Psa. 37:4--...He will give you the desires of your heart. They are still standing and waiting. Desires have not yet been granted.
Of course, the first part of that verse says to "delight yourself in the Lord."
Do they?
There is no way I can stand in judgement of them and their 'delight,' but I often find that they are also ones who simply 'crave.' There is no effort made toward 'diligence.'
How can I be diligent if no one will give me a job?
I think that is a fair question that deserves an answer.
Be diligent to:
- bathe regularly
- dress neatly
- mow your yard
- wash your car
- clean your clothes
- take out the trash
- turn off the tv
- turn down the stereo
- quit reading gossip magazines
- buy an apple instead of potato chips
- save something out of every dime you get
That's just the short list.
After you've mastered those habits, you can then be diligent to:
- learn a new skill
- volunteer somewhere to help others
- cut someone else's grass for a few dollars
- do other odd jobs for a few dollars
- apply for a regular job with regular hours
Or, you can continue to lay around wishing and hoping and complaining.
BTW. How's that workin' for ya?
